Samsung TouchWiz UI gets an overhaul for MWC

Software

By way of a Korean press release, Samsung has announced that its popular dumb phone UI for use on its touchscreen devices is getting a makeover. TouchWiz, or “wait is that a smartphone or is that just TouchWiz?” as you may know it, is present on a handful of Samsung handsets and is an evolutionary step based on the Croix UI from Sammy’s Armani phone. Designed with the finger in mind, Samsung developed the UI to have its own OS supplement for handsets that wouldn’t quite make it to smartphone status. In preparation for next week’s MWC kick off, Samsung just sent word through the vine that TouchWiz went and got its hair did in preparation for a whole new look to be shown off in Barcelona. Ok, so the screen shots it provided along with the press release aren’t too great a departure from the TouchWiz of old, but there are some sexy new elements that will make Sammy’s touchscreen dumb phones even more desirable to many. More haptic features, 3D effects, downloadable widgets and a widget dock along the bottom of the screen are among the new features you can look forward to. The best part about Samsung’s announcement? Current TouchWiz handsets will be able to install the new UI via an update. Woo! Expect plenty of hands-on love with the refreshed TouchWiz build to hit all corners of the internet next week.

    Jealous iphone fanboys?

Um, no not at all. Have you USED TouchWiz? It’s a relic from the 90s. Is there anything actually useful about it besides maybe the photo browser that *actually lets me change my wallpaper from the home screen?* Oh yay! With my iPhone I can, oh I dunno, download 10s of thousands of apps to expand its functionality and use gestures to control the OS. With TouchWiz I can … Drag the music player in and out of a dock! Yay!

    Yeah, dude, so jealous, OMG!

Can the iphone send multimedia via text messaging? Wait..no! all this technology and the Iphone can’t send multimedia with the #1 communication tool (texting), well at least the most used these days. Iphone is really top of the line technology. Oh, did i mention Bluetooth for Iphone only works with a headset.Eternity has full function to all your devices…Wow! Eternity is really looking good being 90′s relic touchscreen technology. looking foward to the updated Touchwiz. Really like the Qwerty keyboard, oh! Iphone crunches theirs in portrait mode, hope for small fingers. 3.0 mega pixel camera. Also, don’t have to send “entire” phone in for a battery replacement. Oh, Eternity Battery last longer as well. All for half the price and also adding full data was half… Iphone hmmm! You do have better Internet Graphics, added GPS, but Google maps works great on Eternity. Whatever Right! As long as your happpy with your phone!

One of the main reason I decided to re-up with TMo and get the Behold, which sports the TouchWiz interface, was because it has Stereo Bluetooth. One of the major features of the iPhone is that is also your iPod, but you can’t use wireless headphones without an adapter, and with the adapter, you have to switch to “airplane” mode, which now defeats the purpose of the phone. I really dig the other features and apps of the iPhone, but it has some MAJOR deficiencies in it’s design. I’ll use “90′s” tech anyday as long as it does what I need it to do. Too bad that you have to use a wired headset to listen to music though :(
