Firmware update coming soon for the T-Mobile G1, sans sweet tasty Cupcake

The next two weeks are sure to test the patience of American G1 owners as a T-Mobile rep has confirmed by way of the official forums that a new firmware build, 1.1 RC33, will be coming sometime soon (although it has been said that the update has already been seeded to “a small number of users” as of yesterday). We’ll start off by stating the bad news that Cupcake will not be a part of the new release, although RC33 does feature many sorely-needed improvements. Specifically, it will “include new system enhancements such as the ability to save pictures or files to file by long-pressing an item, check for system updates, and use the Google Voice Search feature.” Other than that, some bugs have been fixed here and there but that’s all she wrote. Okay, it does kind of suck, but Google Voice Search is a pretty good consolation prize, no?

    I bought this phone accepting the fact that it did not have vid recording, stereo b/t or a touch screen keyboard, but, the anticipation has finally gotten to me! So, to answer your question about the consolation prize, the answer is a resounding “NO”!

    tmobile should have all the money in the world considering they have been dicking people left and right out of their free flight promos. someone should goto to washington and smack dotson and the rest of those poorly educated execs in the mouth.

    android knows how to get people excited like apple. only difference is android is not apple and they dont have that leeway. make the people happy right away then you have room to fuck around.

    i got word from a tmo rep that the update will begin being sent out feb 5-15. ofcourse they will be sending it out in their usual group blasts. as for new activations,they should expect the update within 3 days.

    as a G1 owner im kinda disappointed at this point. ready for my bb 8900 or atleast a G2!

    That is RC-33, not Cupcake. Cupcake is still work in progress. No ETA for it, this is from G1 web forum

    I just got a g1 a few days ago, so far so good, video recording and a touchscreen keyboard would be good.

    This is why I left T-mobile, they may say they have the best CS but that does n good when they have crappy products. They refused to sell me an 8900 early so I switched over to AT&T and got an iPhone, plus I am saving 20 bucks a month now and that’s worth not as good CS in my eyes. Down with T-Mo and the G1, it holds no candle to an iphone or blackberry!!!!

    Poor G1, had such high hopes, but I think there is like 3 googlers working on the OS. Still no real BT stack? No Video? Thank god I returned it before the 14 day trial was up.
