Latest Xbox 360 update killing audio via HDMI?

Gaming

It looks like Sony isn’t the only company with woes on the gaming console front these days. Sure, Xbox 360 owners might not be forced to sit back and watch as their console manufacturer of choice posts record losses and sees gaming labs begin to snub their platform, but what difference does it make if their consoles becomes unusable? In an Xbox Forums thread currently spanning 23 pages, hundreds of Xbox 360 owners are reporting that recent updates are causing big problems. In a system that currently sits at the forefront of HD gaming, HDMI connectivity is a must. Users are reporting that after installing the Xbox Live Fall Update however, audio has been completely compromised via HDMI. Some users are even reporting video issues as well. Months have passed since the issues first arose and yet countless gamers still find themselves without a solution. Calls to Xbox support have yielded nothing to date – in fact some reps are still trying to blame faulty TVs and cables for the issue. Talk to us Microsoft, what’s up?

Thanks, Jacob!

If Apple had a console, it would cost at least twice as much as the most-expensive PS3, but only include 1/8 of the features of the 360 or PS3. The sheep– I mean people, would buy the useless thing anyway because it’s their way of sticking it to “the man.” (aka Microsoft/Sony)

Whats the problem? Just use the Component cables! They produce superior picture quality anyway? HDMI is just a cable they are trying to get us to use so they can then switch on the copyright protection and rule out ripping their content!!! Boycott HDMI, not XBOX!!

My 360Elite HDMI audio output has been experiencing noise/distortion since the update. Prior HDMI audio experience was outstanding… I will accept this (and use optical audio) only if Zune for the 360 is released! lol… no RRoD yet on this one…

I use a HDMI cable on my system and I only lose my audio when I play Unreal Tournament online. Any one else have this issue?

Funny, the E74 error just showed up on my xbox. I am trying to get ready for a tournament and now have to send the thing in for repair. Very frustrating, not even a year old yet. Fortunately it is under warranty but what a huge inconvenience.

but why is it only certain xboxs?
shouldnt all of the 360s have the same parts in them?
or at lest shouldnt every 360 from the same factory be affected?
doesnt make any sense to me.

HDMI does have superior video and one of the main selling points was the one cable convenience for A/V. I started with component and watched an HD movie. When I switched to HDMI, the resolution changed drastically. If you google hdmi vs component I am sure you will find an explanation as well. Ps3 & iPhone both suck by the way. I use to work for apple and I could share wondrous sketchy tales with you on how they suck. Both apple and sony are master marketers nothing more. Sony is constantly caught lying about specs and making hardware that developers want to kill themselves over trying to work on. I am not a fanboy by the way, I just purchased an xbitch recently and like most xbitch owners; I HATE MICROSOFT. However, they managed to make a really great gaming experience……red ring aside.

Also, it doesn’t allow downloadable content to be shared with other profiles on the same Xbox (I think that’s right. I just switched consoles because the one I had before kept overheating and getting two red lights). My brother was the one who downloaded a map pack so when he recovered his account, he was able to re-download the map pack. Before The patch, I was able to play that same map pack, but with the update, I got screwed over and I can’t even get into the multiplayer in Call of Duty 5, which is what the map pack was for. So I’m not able to play multiplayer and I can’t play a gamemode on that game called Nazi Zombies until I waste 25 bucks. And I’m pretty much broke… I’m pissed.

My name is KC. I am a I.T. Technician and I mainly work on custom gaming computers and laptops but I do work on xbox 360s from time to time. In the past I’ve worked mainly with overheating but now the attention is turned towards HDMI. Some might say that you get more with component but thats not entirely true, by any means. HDMI is just just everything you need jam packed into one cord. Most of the problems people face with HDMI is compatibility.

I would use component all the time, but I use a 22 inch gaming PC moniter to play xbox one, which…is FAR Superior to the component with over 120 HERTS per second than your average 30 or 25 on tvs. Lately I was using component on my TV to see the difference, as soon as I plugged my HDMI back in…it no longer worked. Ive done everything to reseting to even going back to my old xbox. The older xbox without the recent update worked, but as soon as I switched hookups and updated…HDMI on it did not work either. Hmm..? What will Microsoft do now?
