Apple iLife ’09 begins shipping tomorrow, included with new Macs

Software

Mac users will be happy to learn that Apple is making iLife ’09 available, after what seemed forever since it was announced, beginning tomorrow. We’ve already covered the new features found in the updated bundle so we won’t go through it again but suffice it to say this is a pretty significant upgrade for each of the three applications in the pack. To recap pricing, iLife ’09 will be free with new computers purchased tomorrow or later. An upgrade for current Mac owners will run $79 for a single computer or $99 for a “Family Pack” good on five computers. Users who purchased a new Mac on or after January 6, 2009 should note that an “iLife Up-To-Date upgrade” can be had for a $10 shipping and handling fee. There will also be a Mac Box Set available, which includes iLife ’09, iWork ’09 and Leopard 10.5.6 for $169. Lastly, GarageBand ’09 Artist Lessons will be available for $5 a pop.

Nice attempt at a tie-in to the Trojan, but the Trojan is carried on iWork torrents, not iLife.

What says it will be pre-installed starting tomorrow? There’s nothing on the Apple press release about that.

Trojan – Smojan. Pirated iWork had problems for those who steal stuff.

Apple iWork is great, as is the new iLife.

Pee-Cee users are again left waaaay behind.

Reckon they’ll update the bundle pack when snow leopard comes out? I want to upgrade ilife and iwork, but am reluctant to rush and do it, just incase they decide to bundle in the new OS when it comes out..

That sounds like a fair bet to me, Andy.

    This is not out yet?
wow…i’ve been using this for almost a month now..lol
Retail’s really gotta catch up man, this is just sad.
Don’t understand why software developers release software to useer their community at expos, then wonder why retail sales are down when they finally release the software publicly a month later? Don’t they understand that once they give it to a person with a computer, it’s only a matter of a day or so before i find it and download it? Multiply that by a million people, what do you need to release a retail version for? U’ve already given away the software for free. They really expect me to pay 6 grand for adobe creative suite master collection and The Avid Media Composer, when all it really costs me is a $100 for a rapidshare account and an unlimited bandwidth bell internet account.
I mean, come on now?…wake up.

Again, the trojan was in iWork – not the unreleased iLife.

It’s not all his fault – Michael B. is the one that made the mistake in the other blog entry.

They seem a bit too quick to post without first reading the original story through for all the facts.

What are you talking about? This software wasn’t even announced until 21 days ago. Why should we believe you had it before anybody outside Apple knew it existed?

“pre-installed on new Macs” – wonder when EU will start getting to Apple’s a$$..?

  • laughin at you

    @MaxPayne79

hahahahahahahaa you paid 100 dollars for a rapidshare account, and than brag about it like you are special, you are so lame it isnt even funny.

  • Mark Mitchell

@pawelg – you have no idea why they went after Microsoft have you ?

  • MaxPayne79

@ Trane; January 7th is when i installed it then xslimmered it. So that’s what, 19 days? I’d say that’s almost a month, no?

What i don’t understand is why they waste the time to create packaging for it, print it, ship it, pay people to store it on shelves, then charge you for all those fees (aka the retail fees), for the digital copy…like..what???..lol Honestly, i’d rather pay for software half or 3/4 of the price and have a digital copy with no physical waste. And…an in depth instructional manual would be fantastic too. Bundle it together, in .dpf format of course.

Roxio was one of the originators of this movement a long time ago but they too, have gone back to charging the same for physical and digital copies. I thought it was a great idea and the beginning of something new and revolutionary but…guess i was wrong.

No body wants to take a hit at their profit numbers for the sake of a better (and perhaps a more profitable) future, instead they will stand in front and defend a crumbling outdated business model while it’s still intact…mostly. What they fail to realize is the severity of the massive cracks that are beginning to appear inside their foundation.

  • MaxPayne79

@ laughin; no i paid about 50 canadian for a 1 year subscription for rapidshare, and i pay 49 canadian for a monthly unlimited bandwidth internet service. Please learn how to read properly before u decide to show us how illiterate you are. And i wasn’t bragging, i was stating a fact to illustrate a point. Do me a favour and go back to school, please.

  • PawelG

@Mark Mitchell – I believe I do – for similar if not the same practices – with the only difference of them (MS) bearing label of dominant software supplier…
    Greetings from EU ;)

my Best Buy has had this in for weeks…..I don’t know what’s going on with the rest of the retail world….

Does anyone know what release you’ll get if you did the “Up-to-date” upgrade?

Will it be a full release box, or is it a special installer disk??
