Microsoft to deliver Windows Mobile 6.5 in 2H 2009?

Rumor

windows mobile

According to sources at Taiwanese handset makers, Microsoft is set to deliver Windows Mobile 6.5 to handset makers in the second half of 2009. Handsets running the newest OS are expected to debut some time in Q3 2009, though most manufacturers will likely be targeting the holiday season for launch. The leak focuses on new handsets and provides no indication whether Window Mobile 6.5 will be provided for the current crop of 6.1 handsets. Microsoft is still expected to unveil the details about its mobile OS at the Mobile World Conference next month. We will have to wait and see if this latest iteration of Windows Mobile will wow us or just give us another reason to look forward to webOS.

I thought Microsoft stated that Internet Explorer Mobile 6 would not run on the phones that are already on the market due to lack of system resources. Either way, I have it running on my HTC-6800.

Incredible. It took MS three years just to do a facelift on an existing 6 version.

I guess, MS just looking for an excuse to exit this market segment.

So the XDA guys should have a version for my blackjack II pretty soon :)

Hey Microsoft, you gonna beat Palm and Duke Nukem Forever to market right? Oh, oops!

    “Longhorn Mk. II” anyone?

Please wow us Microsoft! I enjoy my WinMo phone, but looking at everything that is coming out, you can’t help but feel it is a bit stale and in desperate need of revival.

It would be great if it came as an update to 6.1 devices, but I doubt it.

Personally, I think I may wait a little longer and get the 7.0 release of WinMo. I just got my BlackJack II last year, and not in a huge rush to go out and spend a lot on a phone to upgrade.

@Brian Hughes: Might be more than “a little longer” for WM7
