Fido to offer BlackBerry as of February 4

Good news for all of the Fido BlackBerry wannabes out there. As expected and just like we told you last week, Fido did indeed begin training its employees for the arrival of BlackBerry with a targeted launch date of February 4. Sadly it looks like Fido really is going to start things off with the Pearl 8100, but at least it’s going to allow people to BYOBB. Well, unofficially at least.

The 8100 will go for $400 month-to-month/off contract, $350 on a 2-year, and $25 on a 3-year with voice and data. As for the data plans to be offered, they are as follows:

  • $15 – Unlimited personal email and IM
  • $25 – 500MB
  • $30 – 1GB
  • $60 – 3GB

BES won’t be offered as Fido is now a low-cost carrier and its parent company Rogers would prefer you to get your BES on with them, but tethering is allowed at no additional cost. You know, unless you go over your data limit.

    And does the $15 plan allow for web browsing?

    As long as you have an unlocked GSM BlackBerry you’re going to be able to use it on Fido. As for the $15 email and IM plan, no, it does not include web browsing or support for applications that require data.

    good stuff. But…if u already have a data plan, how much would it cost to just get email alone? Is it even possible..lol

    I have an unlocked blackberry 8100 already and I am using it for Fido does this mean as of right now I can call Fido and request a data plan get to use my BB messenger now? Or do I have to wait until Feb 4? Please someone help!

    if I were to get the $15 email & im plan, will that only allow me to us bbmessenger… or can I use other im agents like gchat and msn?

    I have a BB curve 8320 and the 1GB data plan… I am able to get on pretty much any webpage and messenger service using the browser. I also downloaded opera mini which is a great browers for BB… The only thinng that ihave not been able to use is that I really want is BB messenger and to set up my email… Will I be able to do this beg Feb 4th???
