E71x still coming soon to AT&T, FP2 confirmed

General

It looks like US Nokia fans are in for a little treat once the E71x finally makes it to market via AT&T. Sure, it seems like ages since the E71 was first released and that’s because, well, it has been ages. One of the biggest complaints with the E71 however, looks to be resolved. Despite the fact that the release timing of the E71 could certainly have made it a Feature Pack 2 (FP2) candidate, Nokia opted for S60 3rd Edition FP1 instead. For the E71x however, newly-found screenshots show the FP2 Device Manager. That’s right people, no more battling with Access Points – and maybe even OTA firmware updates! Despite the fact that Nokia has pulled the E71x user manual from its site since we scooped its little faux pas last week, we still expect Nokia’s sexy little QWERTY to be announced by AT&T very soon.

    I wonder if FP2 will ever come to the original E71 at all?

    anyone know if this means that my e71-2 will now be considered a smart phone and they’ll make me start using a real data plan other than media net unlimited?

    Nokia skips the region for the last two firmware update then slaps FP2 on the E71 on ATT?

    Thanks…. for nothing Nokia

    wow, AT&T sure does know how to make a nice UI look ugly. The bastards probably took out all the usual Nokia themes too. Anybody want to make any bets as to when this phone finally shows its face? I’m gonna say Valentines Day even though I have no faith that AT&T will get it out by then.

    @greengadget
    You’re better off with the one you have. You can forget about getting all the accessories you got with the AT&T one, not to mention you have total control over your device, and you’ll be able to get all the firmware updates. I highly doubt AT&T even cares about getting its customers firmware updates for its phone.

    Almost forgot… In case anyone hasn’t noticed, the search feature on the home screen that used to be right above calendar entries on ALL FP2 phones is now gone. It also looks like the set up email shortcut is gone too as well as the indicators that showed you how many voice messages and text messages you have waiting for you. But hopefully you can turn that on or off. Oh, and after digging through the user manual, I didn’t see VoIP, the GPS app is now gone and Nokia Maps isn’t even there, surprise surprise. They probably took the dictionary out too. Did they seem to forget that this is a business phone or do they enjoy ruining Nokia’s image in the US?

  • jeff

    n95 freak that isnt the home page there are probably more shortcut that you cant see so you need to chill we dont need to here about your issues with att because we all know that this is a good phone and it probably is retaining all nokia standard things except for the back grounds

    FWIW:

    Talked to my Nokia rep about this phone while she was trying to shove the 6650 down my throat. She said this phone was in the “labs” but was (at the time) in a standstill, because att wanted to remove nokia maps as well as a bunch of other apps and nokia had them hidden so users could still access it after searching for them deep in the menus. Probably stuck it in a nonsensical location to sneak it in. Anyways, it’s frustrating that att and nokia don’t play well on things like this. this info came to me about two months ago.

    Its a shame Nokia/Stymbian no longer offers Blackberry Connect.

  • Jay N95 owner!

    Appearently when it comes to Nokia’s NSeries & ESeries handsets UNlocked & UNbranded are the way to go.

    All carriers are way, way too controlling, and I’m am sick of it. Unlocked & unbranded N97-NAM for me, all I need from AT&T is they’re HSPA network, and that’s it. No thank you to the rest.

    i happen to own the e71x well the proto version anyway its not a bad phone doesnt crash alot like my n95 did. unless you have tmobile then pages tend to not load correctly. as for the feature pack thing or whatever on my e71x it does offer OTA updates however since im a trash mobile (tmobile)customer i cant update it. unless ur a att customer its a perfect phone for you, tmobile customers steer clear of the e71x and get the unlocked version of it.
