Mysterious Motorola Renew shows its face; mean, green… and ugly

General

A few days ago, your pals at BGR put an end to the rumors and confirmed the release dates for a few highly-anticipated T-Mobile handsets – namely the BlackBerry Curve 8900 and the Samsung Memoir. There was a mystery device on the list we gave you as well, the Motorola Renew, that had yet to be outed as far as details and images were concerned. If you were curious about this masked Moto, you might not be all that pleased with what you’re about to learn. Firstly, it’s ugly as sin. We love the concept – a handset made entirely of sustainable materials, as is its packaging – but the execution leaves plenty to be desired. Nokia has come up with a few terrific designs for renewable handsets but the folks at Moto seemingly didn’t use the same concept of backing up “green” with an attractive form. While the green factor alone may be enough to rope in some buyers, don’t expect this puppy to do any real damage. Love it or hate it, the Renew is coming to T-Mobile on February 4th as an exclusive. Pricing is still an unknown at this point and we doubt you’ll care much once it is revealed.

There are uglier phones, but this one is definitely a top contender. I guess the Firefly crowd has another option :-p

I’m an N85 / E71 user so I can appreciate good design and to be quite honest, this is an amazing design for its market segment.

The reason most reading & writing this blog wont like it is because you’re not a part of that segment and might even like HTC’s ugly boxy yet boring designs.

…but seriously though, it looks like a V-Tech (I remember looking at V-Techs a few years ago and thinking they looked like Razrs..)

It’s not that bad looking, really… I mean, it won’t win any design awards, sure, but it’s not that bad looking for a featureless dumbphone candybar.

Though I was intrigued to see what this phone was about, being that the name popped up out of nowhere amongst a group of other new T-Mobile phone, I never was actually interested in it. Looking at it now, I’m glad I didn’t hype myself up.
