GPS Touch Pro Unlock

Verizon Touch Pro owners who do not want to wait until “the first half of 2009″ for Verizon to unlock the GPS on their mobile phones can head on over to PPC Geeks for some detailed instructions by lllboredlll (with some help from gc14) on how to do it now. The procedure involves installing a few cab files, running PPST, a soft reset and, for those that want seamless aGPS operation, some hacking using Qualcomm’s QPST programming tool. While you are in QPST, you may also want to follow the instructions to remove the Sprint banner from your phone. Hey, you in there already so you might as well, right? Many users on both PPC Geeks and Howard Forums are reporting success with GPS locks taking less than one minute using third party GPS software. As with any hacking with QPST, proceed with caution but if you do take the plunge, report your success or failure in the comments.

    Slightly confused here Kelly. You said the Touch Pro is on Verizon, but you mention a statement which is “you may also want to follow the instructions to remove the Sprint banner from your phone.”

    I’m not on either, but I didn’t even know the Verizon Touch Pro had come out.

    The Touch pro is out for Verizon…just under a stupid numeric name, which I haven’t even bothered to remember…sumthin like the 6950 or some nonsense like that.

    zephxiii is correct. Sorry that I did not clarify it further as I did not want to get into the nitty gritty details on the hack. From my understanding, the hack involves incorporating a portion of the PRI from Sprint on the Verizon Touch Pro. It is done in such a way that the Verizon PRL is kept intact so the phone stays on VZW while at the same time unlocking the GPS. One side effect of the hack is that a Sprint banner now appears on the home screen.

    This shouldn’t need to be applied to the Storm right. As I understand it the Storm GPS is unlocked already… or am I mistaken?

    v2 of this fix was posted on 12.25.08 It now is a complete VZW PRI instead of Sprint so banners issues as well as a few other tiny bugs are now GONE :D

    I am trying to unlock my verizon gps and went by bored explaination and I didnt seem to get it. I can not find the ppst.exe file after installing the V2 from bored. Please help me, have been wanting this since I bought my phone a couple of months ago. Thxxx!
