Palm jumps on bandwagon, gets its very own app store

Services

Things are happening for Palm with news of its upcoming OS and the first of a family of new devices. Of course, how could its compete with the iPhone and BlackBerry without its very own mobile app store? After partnering with PocketGear, Palm now has an app store with over 5,000 apps, 1,000 of which are free, for its own OS (Palm devices with Windows Mobile has its own thing, of course). The variety of apps doesn’t look too shabby as Palm tries to keep up with the big boys and we’re hoping that the app store integration into the upcoming Nova OS will be seamless. Give us a killer device, an intuitive and attractive OS, top it off with the app store and tons of apps and you just might be a keeper, Palm. Don’t let us down!

Thanks Jimmie!

Second step in the right direction.

You could give me a Palm app store with 30,000 apps and there still isn’t a chance in the world I’m going to buy a Palm nor would I suggest one to any of my customers.

    That’s just me though.

“nor would I suggest one to any of my customers”

    Who do you work for?

RIM still doesn’t have an App store. What the hell are they waiting for? Are they waiting for every other handset manufacturer to create an App store?

The anti-Palm sentiment among some around here is getting old. Can’t we wait until CES to see what comes out?

Epic fail, just like their ancient Operating System. Would you like some WHINE with that cheese?

I wonder if the Palm App store will be the only game in town or will you still be able to get apps from places like handango.
Also, since both Nova and Android is Linux based, it might be easy for developers to create apps for both platforms at the same time.

The comments on TreoCentral about this “app store” are interesting.

TRANSLATION: Alms … Alms for Palm …

Like passing the hat at a funeral. How tasteless and insulting!

Uhh… this isn’t palm jumping on the bandwagon…
its more like palm building the bandwagon, then falling off, then getting back on again
They pretty much invented the mobile app store with AddIt which was on palms ages ago

This is just repackaged PalmGear. Way to go Palm!

I guess this will be App Catalog, goodies for new Palms

  • backbeat

^Sad that it won’t be backwards compatible. :)

What do you care? None of this interest you because you won’t get Sprint because mom and dad won’t let you off thier fam plan and Palm prices thier equipment too cheap.

  • backbeat

Not backwards compatible … Just like webOS. ;)

Don’t be such a irrational child just because someone understands that your Jesus-carrier is no more special than any other at the end of the day.
