BlackBerry Curve 8320 makes its way to AT&T; by Pony Express

Retail

It surely took its sweet time getting there – to the point where it’s almost impossible to even care anymore – but the BlackBerry Curve 8320 finally decided to make its way to AT&T. If the Bold is too awesome for you and you’re too impatient to wait for the Curve 8900, the 8320 might be right up your alley. Featuring all of the bells and whistles of BlackBerrys past, the 8320 is little more than an 8300 with WiFi. In other words, plenty of fingers are likely crossed in hopes that big enterprise orders can now be filled with handsets that can make use of AT&T’s WiFi hotspots and potentially lighten the load on the data network. Old design, 65K color screen, no 3G… Is this how we’re going to wrap up the year? In the end, the only thing AT&T did right with this one was to not bother announcing it with any marketing behind it.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

    @ Paul
that has to do with VZW not wanting WiFi, correct? Which, I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to offer something so simple that could only help, not hurt you. Oh boy, VZW.

Are there any AT&T insiders who can comment on the impact of the release of the 8320 on the imminent release of the 8900, or have ANY clue as to the actual release date of the 8900? Also, how could a handset be put up one day and sell out already – was the quantity really that limited?!?

Since OS 4.5 for the Curve was just released by AT&T I would guess that was the holdup on the release of this phone. Hardware was ready months ago but AT&T never intended to send it out with anything less than the 4.5 OS.

The 22nd is tomorrow. I visited two AT&T stores yesterday, and nobody seems to detect any trace of it. Maybe there will be an announcement tomorrow, with availability a week or two or three down the road?

  • NO UMA?

A link to this news on the IHUB for calypso wireless

suggests that ATT has “thrown its hat” into the FMC arena.

for a moment i was kicking myself for our recent switch to tmobile (from sprint)
specifically we made the change for UMA but imho you are correct this PR does not
Relay information about either UMA or FMC

    Minor correction:
    AWS, T-Mobile’s UMTS/HSPA band, is on 1.7/2.1, not 1.7/1.9
