Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8350i FINALLY gets official

General

It might not warrant quite the fanfare received by the coming of “the first touchscreen BlackBerry” but iDEN addicts will be excited to learn that RIM’s most advanced Push-to-Talk (PTT) enabled device ever is finally official. We showed you live images of the 8350i last month and since then we’ve received a constant onslaught of comments and emails wondering when this puppy might actually hit store shelves. At long last the mystery can be put to bed. As for the spec on this bulky beauty, here are a few highlights:

  • 4.4″ x 2.4″ x 0.7″
  • OS 4.6
  • WiFi and GPS
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • 2 megapixel camera
  • microSDHC support
  • International direct connect and Talkgroup
  • 1400 mAh battery

The BlackBerry Curve 8350i is already up for purchase on Sprint’s site and should be hitting store shelves this week. As for pricing, it can be yours for a very reasonable $149.99 with a two-year contract.

    @ Radar_One

Absolutely correct, and I stand corrected. I was about to write something in which our friend ‘Paul’ would have to plead the 5th…

    @ avremele

Agreed 100%. I was trying out the Renegade a couple of months ago and only returned it due to the poor battery life. If they were able to place Sprints calling and data service on the same device as the Nextel PTT instead of QChat, I think it would be one hell of a device for Sprint and RIM.

From what I’ve seen, the 8350i is slightly larger than the 8310, 8330, etc…therefore would require its own case.

Lack of 3G isn’t worth the addition of wi-fi. I’m in more areas with Sprint 3G, than I am with wi-fi, so I’d rather have the 3G. Oh, and I’d like to have mms.

  • MobileGuru

First off, who said Sprint doesn’t have a good network?

In Southern California where I live, the network is very strong and rivals Verizon easily…

What you should be talking about is AT&T’s weak network and regular dropped calls!

Besides the fact that the Storm is inferior in feature set – it also has to deal with AT&T’s horrible network. AT&T = Less bars in more places… FACT

That’s not even counting Sprint’s 3G – which is the largest and more reliable in the country. Not including Sprint’s/Clearwire’s 4G that’s being released little by little – which is the next big thing coming up!

  • MobileGuru

Oops, brain fart – mixed the Storm up with the BOLD. My fault…

Nevertheless, what I said about Sprint’s strong network and AT&T’s weak network is absolutely true.

Someone above even mentioned Sprint’s strong network reliability in Texas :)

Well, I’m not going to get involved in the fanboy debates (most of which appear to be being conducted by people whose reading comprehension scores merit inspection), but if at least the phone and data are not Sprint/EVDO, then not only am I not interested in the phone, it will be the last straw for me with the carrier.

If their comprehension of the market is so bad that they would ship a phone with iDEN data, then the parent company deserves to go out of business… and they’re certainly not going to stay in business on the back of a phone with a 19kbps data link, tetherable or not, ruggedised or not, camera or not … and PTT or not.

It’s unlikely to be all that long before a carrier with reasonable high-speed data brings out an Android phone, with a PTT button, and not all that much longer before someone brings out an Android voice/IM/presence client to go with it… and that’s all she wrote for Nextel, Metcalfe effect or not.

It’s not hate. It’s merely a reasonable observation of the market — which seems to be beyond Nextel.

If they’d gotten the protocol selection *right*, we wouldn’t all have to speculate as we do, because we would *know* which protocols they choice for phone and data.

Find me an authoritative answer. I dare you.

MORONS LIVE! Blue Horse Shit-ass proves it. HAHAHA

See I have a low tolerance for VILE MORONS who are ONLY brave on a website. In person he is probably a little dork with no friends that suffers from a deficiency of gonadotropins leaving him with an unusually small genitalia. So he tries to compensate by insulting others to feel self – important.

Maybe the next time I visit NYC we can meet so I can physically wipe the pavement with you as well as verbally. Just tell me where and when tough guy. I would love to squeeze your head and watch the shit come out of your ears. HAHA

BIG BRAVE MORON ON A WEBSITE. Remember it was you who attacked me, again. We can meet right near the VZW Union HQ in Manhattan that must be next to their NYC HQ! Right, you said you KNEW WHERE it was.

  • Duh Wut?

I think Paul needs to recheck the comments. Paul is the who insulted first.

  • J-boogie

Are you guys really arguing over who’s cell phone company/network is the better… the both of you need stop fondling your laptops and go out get some SEX!

  • pete p

Will have mine in 2 day’s . Look forward to something new. Right now I use the 7100i.
Will let you know how I like it on Monday.

  • andybo

Got my phone Wednesday. Friggin awesome. No doubt about it.

  • Cracking up

This fight between Paul and bluehorse is hilarious. I can barely figure out what they are arguing over at this point. I am cracking up over here while observing their internet fighting styles.

Paul is a classic shouter/laugher. He will blast you with points by putting things in capital letters throughout his posts. I am personally a fan of this as it let’s me look for CAPS for those really key points to an argument.

Example: Your MOM had SEX with a DONKEY!

Paul also uses laughter to add insult to injury. He will follow up many of his more powerful insults with “HAHA!” This is so we know that it’s a good time to stop right there and laugh loudly for all to hear while reading. I know that I need guidance like this and appreciate Paul’s efforts.

Now let’s move on to bluehorse…

Bluehorse’s appeal is to the wanna-be intellectual. He uses the powerful “I am smarter than you” technique. The key to doing this well is to belittle the intelligence of anyone you are arguing with. Make sure they know that you know that they “rode the short bus” to school. Just remember that being accurate is not important here. It’s all about one-liners. Facts and knowledge mean nothing in this technique, it’s all about seeming superior. And make sure you throw in sentences that sound as if you are a recent graduate of Harvard such as, “The malignant imbecile who is posting on these reports does not comprehend the ambiguity of my antidisestablishmentarianism because they have an intelligence quotient equal to or less than a the first prime number.” It doesn’t make sense, but I am impressed for sure!

You people say iPhone versus BlackBerry?

I say Paul versus blue horse! Keep the fight going because that’s what I like to read.

This is one sweet phone!!!! The WiFi is fast and everything is awesome!!!! There is only one glitch with the phone and that is voice dialing doesn’t work with bluetooth. Other than that I don’t see what all the fuss is about Nextel. First off the data is not that slow. I would have liked to see a hybrid though. I’ve owned the ic902 hybrid which was junk. I’ve owned the V950 Renegade which was also junk. In the repair shop more than in my hands. Blackberry 8350i is awesome!!!!!!

  • InTheWoods

Any clue when Sprint will release a Blackberry with WiFi for the Sprint network?

  • MobileGuru

Here’s your authoritative answer – I know you know this already – but let me remind you that Nextel is part of SPRINT. The people who want nextel phones are a very NICHE group who are particularly interested in having the push to talk capability as an add.

Business people and especially public safety officials use sprint nextel PTT phones most. and everyone knows that Sprint Nextel’s PTT can’t be matched. The chirp is the fastest you can possibly get in regards to PTT. Someone who wants REAL PTT capabilities would look no further than Sprint Nextel.

As for Android, if you had your ear to the ground you’d know that there is speculation that Sprint will be coming out with an Android phone very soon.

That said, both bases covered – two different customer bases, one company.

And lastly, I challenge you to try out the iDEN network these days. this isn’t the iden of yesteryear. Sprint spend billions beefing it up – and it shows these days.

  • Jeffrey Schirf

Every phone has some kind of glitch in it when it comes out. I just wish that people would realize this. As far as the text messaging thing is concerned. It works lightening fast now on my phone. I send and receive all of them. Picture mails too!!! I changed the Docs to go all to Deny and I register the HRT everyday just in case. Not really that much of a problem and I think the little bugs will be fixed in the update when they come out with it. I have had this phone for a little over 2 weeks now and have sent and received over 700 text messages. I don’t think that’s bad for all the problems people are saying they’re having. Plus when I call CS they said that they were upgrading the text messaging systems on both Sprint and Nextel which could have been some of the problems.

Listen every carrier has problems with new phones, software running in the phones, service and everything. I will take my $99 plan with everything compared to the hype of all the other characters in the game(ie Verizon, ATT and T-mobile). That includes unlimited everything including my Blackberry plan.

  • Joe G

Hello all. I just want to tell u all that this is my first blackberry and not to bad yet. I am still learning about it but it seems alot easier to work then the 7100. The internet is not that bad. When my wifi is connected sometimes i feel that it takes along time to connect to a website. But dont get me wrong it is pretty fast. Dont know why. I have been reciving my texts. I turn the phone off and take the battery out everyday for any updates that nextel sends out. Any other pointers from anybody, i would love to hear.

  • LMAO!!!!

Fighting on the internet is like racing in the special olympics. Even if you win, youre still retarded.
