Lenovo shows HTC how to make an Android phone; huh?

Rumor

No seriously. What would you say if we told you that Lenovo is currently in the testing phase with an Android-powered handset that makes HTC’s G1 look like a first-year design student’s mid-term project? You’re looking at the first available live image of Lenovo’s upcoming Android offering for China Mobile. Codenamed OPhone, Lenovo’s sexy handset will be among the first to be based on China’s Mobile’s Open Mobile System (OMS) – meaning it will run Android and and support TD SCDMA, China Mobile’s 3G standard. The unfortunate end of the story is inevitable however; we shouldn’t expect to see Lenovo bring what looks to be one of the sexiest handsets of 2009 to the US… Ever. A shame indeed, but it looks like our friends in China will be able to get their hands on this one pretty soon. We’re sure they’ll be happy to show us what we’re missing once it’s released.

Thanks, neerhaj!

Usually, copycats aren’t successful. Because people just laugh at them.

China mobile has a huge EDGE network. Me thinks EDGE phone will be available too and not just TD.
