Apple iPhone 2.2 update is finally here

General

Hey ladies and gents, the long-awaited iPhone update, which includes Google Maps Street View, is finally here and ready for your downloading pleasure. At 246MB, it’s going to take a little while before you can enjoy all that 2.2 has to offer. New features include, of course, Street View for Google Maps and walking and public transportation directions. Perfect for you city-dwellers. The update also fixes call failures and dropped calls – a definite bonus for those of you who have experiencing a little trouble with making, or even the inability to make, calls. Another big addition to the iPhone is the ability to stream and download podcasts straight through iTunes over WiFi and the network – bonus! So, fire up your computers and get crackin’ as this new update shows a lot of promise and improvements to an already solid OS.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

    quick and easy upgrade.

some of you whiners just need to get a different phone, by now if you are not happy with it then its your own fault for not making a change.

What ever happened to the reports of including tethering capacity in this update (or was that reported to be included in a subsequent update)?

What the F. How stupid can these people be. Pics get distorted when saved from e-mail or web to the phone. So now no picture e-mails or MMS. Nice!

When I upgraded, my gmail smtp settings got messed up. I couldn’t send any emails using the gmail server, only AT&T’s. It said “sender information invalid”, whatever that means. After turning the gmail server off and on a couple times, it magically worked again. Weird. I will say that the phone seems faster and Safari is much more stable. I don’t really care about street view.

Oh, I should have said it was only gmail. My exchange server at work, and my school email still worked.

Has anyone found a solution to the iPhone 2.2 update problem? I’ve had the “verifying iPhone software” moving bar on for hours! I think I’m screwed!

“Verifying updated iPhone software” has been running for hours.
What do I do to stop and get my phone back?

Just say goodbye to manually managing your music/video libraries. Maybe it’s only me, but I have to do everything with synching playlists now. No more drag and drop a few songs onto my iPhone. In fact, after the 2.2 iphone update, iTunes deleted my entire music/video/podcast library off my phone and I had to start from scratch. AFB programming from the “geniuses” at Apple.

WTF. I don’t wanna know what the street looks like, unless I’m on it! Can we get something useful? I think we’ve all waited long enough for MMS support and the simple ability to copy/paste. Some new camera features would be nice too, as well as the ability to hide/show icons you don’t really use.

Once again, when doing these updates, my phone goes into a hard freeze and can no longer use it. So tomorrow afternoon I will have to waste my time again and spend another 3 hours at the Apple store for them to unlock it and loose all my data.
