Verizon announces the Samsung Saga i770 and Samsung Renown

samsung saga

That rumored launch date of November 14th for the Samsung i770 “Saga” was spot on. Right on time, the Saga made its debut on Verizon’s website and is now available for sale online and via telesales / B2B. You will have to wait until December 1st to walk into a store and pick one up. The Saga will set you back $199 after a $70 MIR and a 2-year contract, $269 after a $70 MIR and a 1-year contract or $389 with no contract and no rebate. Remember the Samsung i770 is the first of Verizon’s handsets to require a mandatory $29.99 data plan. All in all, the Saga is a pretty solid handset that might be an attractive upgrade for current Motorola Q users and others who prefer a front-facing physical keyboard. Saga owners wont have to leave their flip phone loving friends behind when they jetset to Europe as Verizon also launched the Samsung Renown, a world phone in clam shell form. Like the Saga, the Renown has both CDMA and quad-band GSM, a 2MP camera and multiple messaging options. The Renown comes in just below the Saga, with a price tag of $179.99 after a $50 MIR and a 2-year contract. Unlike the Saga which is available now, the Renown will not be available until November 19 via B2B, telesales and online. It also won’t land in the stores until December 1. Hit the jump for the full set of specs for both handsets.

    Verizon getting active lately…huh.

  • Dannyboy

Nice to see opera loaded on the Saga… now if only it weren’t so damn blue. Really, what were they thinking there? Couldn’t they just make it black, or gray, or even white? That blue is just SOOO hideous

  • Chris

I might have to dump my Treo for the Saga! But not in blue, too.

@ Dannyboy, you know it’s going to be on VZ’s website for the next two years now, you’ll just have to wait for the red, then gray, then black, then… well, you get the idea!

Sorry, but I’ve never seen Verizon come out with different color devices – ever…

If only this thing had iR, I could dump my 755P…finally verizon gets a new WM6 front facing qwerty (only been waiting like a freakin year for it!) and I can’t get it cause it doesn’t have iR – THIS SUCKS.

  • Who?

    A couple things

    1) 256MB RAM/128MB ROM.

    2) This thing is bigger than the iPhone in every dimension.

    Thus, fail. QED.

i like the brown one alot

All I want on this thing is a 3.5mm jack. It has just enough features to make it worthwhile. However, we can expect limitations on the bluetooth and WiFi making it pointless.

Would also be nice if the phone is unlocked for the GSM and support 2 phone numbers simultaneously.

All these failures Verizon has for phones, doesn’t matter which phone, which flavor there is always SOMETHING that gets a blog full of negative comments. Verizon always releases “phones that will never sell”. Somehow, they seem to stay in business. Spare me all the hate comments, I have dislikes as well, but face it they are doing something right and somehow they get phones out the door.

WiFi? How did this get on Verizon? I must be crippled someway. Oh, yeah it runs Windows Mobile! That is enough crippling, right there!

How do I put a signature on my Samsung Saga. For instance, if I reply to an email from my phone will it say “Send via Phone”. You know what I mean. I want people to know I”m on the road and not if front of my pc replying back. Does anyone know??
