Apple wipes hands, no more new stuff in 2008

News

According to a report from MacWorld, Apple is wiping its hands and walking away from the Blackjack table for the remainder of 2008. It’s been quite a year for the Cupertino crew, arguably with plenty more ups than downs (stock price aside). An Apple spokesperson told MacWorld simply that, “our holiday line-up is set.” Hmm. This might come as a bit of a disappointment to plenty of Apple fans who have been hoping rumors of refreshed iMacs and Mac minis held true, but Apple feels it has done enough for this year and for the holiday season. What may likely end up being the biggest story for Apple this holiday season is unfortunately not a positive one. The iPhone 3G, a handset that has cemented Apple’s position as a force to be reckoned with in the mobile industry, is going to be a tough buy this time around. As the in-store activation requirement remains in effect for the holidays, many could be deterred from including the iPhone 3G on their holiday shopping lists. When contacted, one Apple Store location in New York recommended we, “just buy a gift card instead, [the recipient] won’t mind!” Right then. Many people eying a mobile gift this season are likely going to be deterred by the fact that their recipient will have to battle through holiday traffic just to get their hands on the gift right away. The alternative, actually handing someone a phone, is obviously a bit more desirable. Regardless, Apple addicts, it looks like your next fix isn’t coming until 09 so in the meantime you’ll have to look elsewhere for some fresh new gear.

UGH…so frustrating that we can’t buy iPhones as gifts! My girlfriend wants one, but I’m not going to make her go through the pain of getting one.

Isn’t Macworld in Jan? That’ll likely be iMac or Mini refresh/death

Here’s what I want from Apple: a larger version iPod touch, the size of a paperback. Call it an iBook or something. Maybe even a slide-out keyboard. Various high speed connection options. Make it a truly portable internet machine, without the compromises of iPhones and Blackberries. Something I can throw in my briefcase or knapsack and travel with. Like a netbook… but cooler (and more functional). Make it happen!

I agree with pfchang..when i first heard about the tablet mac i was super pumped…something small like 8 inches, touch screen or slide out qwerty…basically do everything a home user would need…i see RIM destroying apple this holiday season with the Storm…i think the majority of people who wanted an iphone already got them…the BB Storm is going to sell like crazy…

So this means on 32GB iphone? :(

I just want a 160GB touch I am willing to pay $6-700 it even!!!! Is that too much to ask??

@pfchang, that has been my only letdown with apple because I was expecting them to come out with one this year & it didn’t materialise. The physicians I work with that are now using apple as their primary platform are BEGGING for it & would easily spend $3000 on it when apple decides to get off their arse & develop it!!!

Id like to see a iphone/ipod touch nano.

All the features of the current ipod touch but shrink the screen down to 3 inches and bump the res to wvga. And of course make the device smaller.

Don’t you think the iMac refresh was too recent for them to do another one this soon?
