Retail

Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the Sony VAiMac. Wait no, sorry – the Sony iVAIO? No no, it’s actually called the Sony VAIO JS. All joking aside, Sony has just announced the pricing on its latest creation and its price points are almost directly in line with Apple’s 20″ iMacs, the VAIO JS really is impressive on paper. The VAIO JS PC / display combo box will be available in two models as follows:

VAIO JS190 – $1499.99

  • Intel Core 2 Duo (3.0GHz, 6MB L2 Cache)
  • 20.1″ XBRITE-HiColor LCD
  • Windows Vista Home Premium
  • 4GB DDR2 RAM
  • 500GB hard drive
  • Integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam
  • Integrated Blu-ray player
  • Integrated Bluetooth

VAIO JS130 – $1099.99

  • Intel Core 2 Duo (2.5GHz, 2MB L2 Cache)
  • 20.1″ XBRITE-HiColor LCD
  • Windows Vista Home Premium
  • 4GB DDR2 RAM
  • 500GB hard drive
  • Integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam
  • Available in black, silver and pink

Ok seriously, a 20.1″ all-in-one box with a 3.0 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive and Blu-ray for $1500? Where do we sign? The VAIO JS is already live on Sony’s site where is states that units will begin shipping in “early October”.

Too cheap for a slot-loading drive. Haha.

Ok, that’s just an insult to my intelligence.

Poor ergonomics just like the iMac, look how far the bottom on the monitor is above the table top. Form over function.

Do we know what sort of graphics capability this thing has? I’m sure a C2D could decode blueray on the fly but brute force isn’t sony’s style.

Where can I buy just the keyboard?

  • Dtest54

vaxick – @ an apple store.

looks nice but its still a knock off.

I dunno what you guys are talking about. I like the style of this all-in-one and on top of that, I think the price is very competitive and this pc offers more for the price than the iMac. Now don’t get me wrong, I favor the iMac’s design and in the looks department but this system provides so many features (especially the Blu-Ray Drive)that make this system a great buy for people who don’t need or want OSX and don’t mind an all-in-one.

It’s got the G45 chipset and the Intel 4500HD graphics chipset. That’s disappointing.

Visually, it looks alright to me. But doesn’t have much of the rest of the Sony brand ID to it. Yes it’s silver, but I don’t think you’ll see those angles in any other Sony product.

It’s certainly a more true iMac clone than Dell’s.

looks very, very, very …. UGLY. yet another clone on the market.

The Apple keyboard does not play well with a PS3.

Does it run MAC OSX? If not it really is just a another PC but does have a nice price tag :)

What are you talking about nice price tag? An iMac with a real graphics card costs less. And you can get a 24″ version that blows the doors off this thing, looks better and isn’t a cheap knockoff. And it runs everything this thing can, plus all the OS X software out there too.

So, stop telling us Macs cost more, because this thing proves otherwise.

Yeah, could’ve sworn I saw this at my Best Buy yesterday. That was pretty quick.

I am seriously considering getting one of these. The price is excellent but I am not quite sure about the size and resolution of the screen. A 22 inch screen with 1920 x 1200 resolution would be ideal…
