SanDisk 16GB available on the market without SanDisk knowing

Accessories

It looks like the much anticipated 16GB microSD card is now available from SanDisk, but they haven’t started advertising it at all. Finally you can have all that space to waste on any smartphone that will support that capacity, and hey, the cost isn’t so bad either. These little buggers will run about $60 – 80 on most sites and that’s a damn good deal, just don’t lose the thing! Expect to see these everywhere soon with a formal announcement from SanDisk themselves.

RIM, you know what to do.

Note that most, if not all, of the 16GB microSD cards that have hit the market are the slower class 2, not the class 4 depicted in the photo. Many of the early adopters over at XDA-developers.com have been somewhat upset about that.

    Taken from RIM web site
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 Up to 2 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 Up to and above 8 GB
    So 4.5 should support 16gb

I have to say, I’m impressed, but I guess I’ll just wait for the class 4+. Not worth my money if its slow right?

Over in germany a retailer on Amazon wants 71 Euro (!)… that an exchange rate of nearly 1:1. And it´s indeed only class 2!

  • cubs

so can someone shed some light on differences between class 2 and class 4?

If available, I’ll be buying this when I get a Storm. Its nice to know at any time I can double the storage of the Storm for $70. I’m guessing 8GB iPhone owners wish they have that option.

    Hey cubs,

classes on these cards represent how fast the card read and write. Class 2 means it read/writes 2mbs a second, and class 4 reads/write 4mbs a second. Higher the number, the better.

    Hmmm…

and I quote from the site with the “16G” card…

    “Features:
    - High storage capacity (8GB) for storing essential digital content such as high quality photos, videos, music and more “

  • Who?

    Finally! Well, almost.

For those of you wonder, as indicated by the microSD card itself, this is a Class 4 memory card. :)

I mean to say, “For those of you wondering..”

So does anyone know if this makes the G1 1 16 gig phone then??? OR can it only take the 8 gig card? This would be a big decision maker for me.

  • ghettogeek

4.5 OS actually supports up to 32GB micro SD cards… can’t wait!!!

Any idea what the limit is for microSD cards? Can we eventually see 100gb on these miniscule devices?

  • Who?

    32gb is the limit

  • redsoxh8r4life
