Talk to your headset and it will talk back

General

Winner of the best cell phone accessory at CTIA this past spring, the Blueant V1 headset has been officially launched. It is listed at Amazon for $119.99 and at MobileCity Online for $99.99, with an expected availability of Aug 29th. The innovative new Bluetooth headset features a unique voice user interface that allows you to speak commands to the headset, access a verbal help system and check on the headset status. No funky LEDs to decipher or fumbling around looking for buttons, just talk to your headset and tell it what to do.  Some of the supported commands include “Pair me”, “Call Back” and “Redial”. It will also speak the number of any incoming calls and ask you if you want to “Answer” or “Ignore” the call. Sweet! Now if we could just get it to do the all the talking when your boss calls about that proposal that was due yesterday…

The words “freaking” and “awesome” come to mind. I’m going to toddle over and pick me up one now. Cheers!

“I’m sorry, JOHN SMITH (in robotic monotone voice) is not available right now. May I take a message for JOHN SMITH?”

BlueAnt never ceases to amaze. I’ve got a Supertooth 3, and it has voice commands to answer calls (just say “accept” or “ok” to answer), and it has text to speech (“Call from John”), and it automatically shuts itself off and reconnects when the door shuts, so I rarely have to touch anything. To me, this is a great way to make it that much safer while driving. No more looking at a screen, and now, you don’t even have to take your hands off the wheel!

I have seen this headset in action on a YouTube video and it does work pretty good.

Sigh, doesn’t seem to be able to handle multiple phones AT THE SAME TIME like some of their other headsets. For example, I carry three cell phones (yes, don’t ask) and with my X3 I can answer any phone that is ringing by pressing the answer button once, twice, or three times.

I read the entire manual they have and it doesn’t sound like it can do that. :(

that is too bad that it cant do 3 phones at the same time….if their other headsets do it maybe this one will in a firmware update

wonder what you would say to answer your phones? Answer one? Answer two? It supports up to 8 devices bet that would get confusing fast…

Answer One. No,no I mean Answer Six. Oh wait,Answer Three, yes thats it. Not to mention the fact that would look like a stock raving lunatic!

Does anyboday have any info on noise reduction for this headset?

Generally, is Bluant better that the Jawbone II?

    thanks

  • Rusty

I think the JB has a little better noise isolation from everything I’ve seen. I had the older blue ant, and everyone I talked to said the noise suppression on the JB was better. The only thing I’ve ever had problems with is the fit, which I solved by getting a custom earpiece from jetsound.com

Read the first line… “Winner of the best cell phone accessory at CTIA this past spring” THIS PAST SPRING… This is not BGR material in my mind! I come here to find out about it “this past spring” not now… Kelly, please don’t turn this into another blog that fills their pages with so much garbage that I check it less and less until I one day decide to eliminate it from my daily views!!

Hmmm. Reading a bit further, to the next few words perhaps, you can see that the headset goes on sale tomorrow. Covering a headset that incorporates some interesting new technology – and that launches tomorrow – isn’t so bad, is it?

I just bought the headset on Amazon (79.99 as opposed to 129.99 @ Best Buy) after having a Jabra BT8010 and testing the Jawbone and Jawbone. Noise cancellation works very well while the Jawbone works great. The voice activated features and the size and comfort are what got me. The BT8010 was great for stereo mode only (and I got it for 20 bux) and that’s about it. The Jawbone is uncomfortable, the buttons are too small and it’s sounds decent. While the BlueAnt has a wonderful voice activated system the main flaw is the sound. While it is understandable it is somewhat muffled (foam earpiece and rubber earpiece do that) but otherwise really good. I would suggest it for people because of the voice activated commands, the size/comfort and it’s compatibility.
