Wild rumors for next-gen Apple Macbooks include new design, glass trackpad

Rumor

Alright, so a physical redesign isn’t all that unbelievable, but the presence of a glass trackpad on the upcoming revision of the Apple Macbook portable line would certainly turn some heads. The rumors are as-yet unsubstantiated, but we wouldn’t place it outside the realm of possibility. The new trackpads will supposedly be multi-touch, and support gesture inputs, both of which sound entirely plausible. The redesigned exterior is rumored to be fashioned out of a single sheet of aluminum, which should significantly cut down on weight. Other rumors include new 16:9 screens which would result in both a 14″ and 15.6″ model, as well as processor revisions based on the Intel Centrino 2 platform. Consider this heresay hearsay for the time being, but chances are good that we could see some sort of announcement or launch by the end of September. Let the speculation begin…

I like the 16:9 idea. 1920×1080 instead of 1920×1200. Sure its less, but a lot easier when I hook my MBP to the TV. Now just if they can shoot movies in 16:9.

It’s funny. We have 4:3 and they shoot movies in 16:9. We move to 16:9 and then they CHANGE IT AGAIN. It’s like, WTF can I use my entire television please without some fucking black bars?

Anyway, I’m just happy with a plain old MBP with some newer guts. The LED backlit screen is great.

You guys really should invest in a spell checker and thesaurus.

Heresy: any opinions or doctrines at variance with the official or orthodox position

HearSAY: Hearsay is a legal term referring to the use of out of court statements as evidence.

    Again, HEARsay, not HEREsay

HEAR, as in, can you HEAR me now.

Not HERE, as in, how the F did you get HERE without possessing basic grammar skills.

    K:
Give the guy a break. One fucking word. Stop being so serious.

  • Maclover

    Seriously. It’s just one word.
    And hearsay is correct.
It means information received from other people that one cannot adequately substantiate. In other words, a rumor.

geez, and i thought heresy was in intentional joke… you know for the apple ‘believers’ ;)

Am I the only one who doesn’t use cover flow? I don’t find it useful, and certainly wouldn’t want this.

  • alex

They better release it before school starts or else they’ll lose a lot of students.

  • nick

if this HAIRsay is troo then thats pritee dope!!

the idea of basically an ipod touch integrated into your track pad makes perfect sense to run smaller apps (address book, ical, itunes, etc) from the trackpad while leaving the screen free for apps that require its full display like aperture office etc.

makes perfect sense of for the evolution of what apple is doing…more sense than doing a full multitouch screen… i find the idea more of a novelty than practical to make the whole screen mutiltouch when you only need mutitouch in a small area for certain small apps really.

oh yeh u forgot that the price will go ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

i agree that the 16:9 ratio will be much better than the current one, but the keyboard buttons look like they’d be difficult to type on.

also, if there’s a glass trackpad like in the picture, and cover flow shows up on it, what if you don’t want cover flow?

cool, yes. practical, don’t think so.

    @ MadMike

Historically, films were *not* shot in 16:9. They were typically in 4:3 or 1.85:1 or 2.39:1 or 2.76:1. The “HDTV standard” of 16:9 is nowhere in that list. Even the new digital cinema standards are not 16:9, but are 256:135. Forcing any of these original film aspect ratios into 16:9 either cuts off something or gives the typical black bars.

I do prefer the 16:10. This allows me to have menus and stuff above and/or below the full 16:9 HDTV standard window. I can always tell the output to an external monitor to be a 16:9 format for display of just film or other imagery of that format on that external device while keeping my screen with the menus visible.

ug macs are overpriced allthough i hate windows vista, there are lesser expensive alternatives to mac, such as ubuntu which has the same layout of mac since there both linux OS’s ones open scource and one is locked down tighter than a Ferengis wallet

  • Dtest54

you guys do realize this is a mockup based on a rumor…..

and if you don;t like coverflow i’m sure you can switch the view, same as you can now. they are not changing the OS just maybe the trackpad.
