First Conviction Handed Down in EliteTorrents Case

News

While the popularity of torrents has shown no signs of dwindling any time soon, the MPAA-fueled case against EliteTorrents just saw its first conviction. Back in 2005, Homeland Security agents served search warrants in various locations around the country as part of “Operation D-Elite” that resulted in 10 arrests. What a fantastic use of the country’s counterterrorism resources. Now more than three years later Clintwood Virginia resident Dale Dove has been convicted of felony copyright infringement and conspiracy, and has become the first man to be convicted as a result of the case. According to prosecutors of the case, Dove was the ringleader in the group of pirated content suppliers that was EliteTorrents. Dove apparently maintained a server of his own and played a part in recruiting others to supply content and servers. While Dove represents the first conviction in this case, he will not be the first to serve time as a result. In 2006, EliteTorrents server administrator Scott McCausland pleaded guilty to two copyright-related charges tied to the distribution of Star Wars: Episode III and served five months in jail plus an addition five months of house arrest (during which has wasn’t allowed to use Linux). Dove’s sentencing will take place in September; good luck buddy.

Anyone remember that TV show Total Recall 2070 from back in the late 90′s? It was based on the same book as the Governators movie. Anyway, the world’s government is secretly run by a group of large corporations known as the Consortium. They often use the government to do there dirty work.

All the pot-smoking hippie liberals will tell you that the Oil companies run the US. Pffft….. Wrong. The RIAA/MPAA runs the government.

Also, don’t refer to it as the MafiAA. I’m Sicilian and La Cosa Nostra at its worst is still 15 notches above the RIAA/MPAA on the worlds most evil organizations list.

The one question I have is: Why would anybody download Star Wars: Episode III?

  • MadMike

@Illa: HAHAHAHA. I actually download movies before I commit to spending money on them. If the movie is worth it, then I will put it on my Netflix Queue or if it’s real good purchase it on Blu-Ray. Of course Hollywood has a penchant for putting out a lot of chaff with the wheat. Which is a nice way of saying, 98% of the movies released are complete and absolute shit.

A guilty plea is a conviction.

  • MadMike

@QR: It’s not only in America. Look at the people arrested from that music site Oink, or even The Pirate Bay.

@Galvatron: Yes, the Democrats do hold a majority in Congress. We have what’s called a Lame Duck. A minority President on his final term. Basically, the Democrats will block all bills and waste time. It’s actually very childish. All the democrats do is play games, and try everything in their power to screw the Republicans.

The democrats that are in office right now are also extremists. Very liberal democrats right now. Nothing at all like Zell Miller or Jimmy Carter. They also like to say Thomas Jefferson was the founder of the Democratic party. That’s actually partly false. He created the Republican Party which then became the Democratic-Republican party which then split. Hence where the LEFT and the RIGHT come from. The Liberals took the left or the Democratic. The Conservatives took the right or the Republican. However, officially the Republican party didn’t fully organize until a few years later. All Thomas Jefferson did was found the party which defined modern politics, but only after he was long dead and buried. Thomas Jefferson’s politics are actually vastly different from the politics of the current Democratic party. The current democratic party takes more from Karl Marx.

We need to get rid of this two party system. We need moderate people with level heads that have 0 special interests. We need politicians to stop messing with scientific studies to further their agendas. Both Dems and Republicans do it. The Democrats want it to sound like we are all going to die tomorrow and the Republicans want to tone it down.

We need moderate and younger leaders. We need to stop companies and special interest groups from interfering with our government. We need to hold companies accountable for what they do or make. If you provide a service, there should be a law that makes sure you provide a certain level of quality.

Anyway, I can go on for hours. And to be honest, if I was making a lot of money off of something, I would be a greedy asshole also. So I guess I am kind of a hypocrite. But then, I’m not sure I would be all that greedy once I made a lot of money. Oh well, who cares anyway.

Until, and unless you’ve ever created original art and spent the 10s-100s of thousands per creation to legally protect it, you wouldn’t have a clue as to even ‘why’ this is an issue. Tough shit, kiddies!

@Galvatron: Go Cheney yourself … again!

  • Jeff B.

Yea I don’t get it that has got to be the biggest waste of time ever.

@MadMike: GTFU, kid! Instead of ripping from someone’s errant blog, get yourself an actual education. When presenting yourself as a neutralist, it’s most wise to not smear one party against the other, genius. Crack a book instead of booking crack, kid.

  • MadMikw

@backbeat: Kid?! I’m fucking 38, I’m a United States Marine, have a degree in computer engineering from Penn State, worked as head of IT for a pharma, married a sugar momma Dermatologist 11 years my junior and left corporate work to become a career firefighter in Philly. Stop being a fucking clueless hippie liberal.

So fucking what, I’m quite Republican in my beliefs. I still don’t like where the Republican party is going. I feel like I have to vote for the lesser of two evils. I also think many registered Democrats and Republicans feel the same way. Bush is a douchebag, Kerry would have been worse, Obama is an elitest asshole and Clinton would bomb Arkansas if she could.

Hey Backbeat, GTFU kid! I’m probably 10 years your senior.

@MadMikie: Thanks for clarifying your neutral political position. :)

BTW, who asked for your internet-worthy CV?

I’ve got textbooks older than you, kid.

When you steal, you steal from artist, first and foremost, as well as the label. Who most directly feels the brunt of your theft most? Not the corporate behemoth label, but the small indie labels and all artists.
