OS X on your MSI Wind? No problem.

General

If you’re in the market for an ultra-portable machine running OS X, but the Macbook Air is a bit outside of your budget, you might want to take note. The MSI Wind, one of many recently introduced low-budget UMPC machines, has been caught in the wild running a full version of OS X. According to the hardware profiler, the Wind spoofs the system into thinking it’s a Mac Pro. A few tweaks renders the Wind fully functional, essentially giving you access to a $600 Mac. Sure, you can pretty much bet that you’ll never be able to run down to your local Best Buy and swoop one of these up, but if you’re down to void your manufacturers warranty, this might be a nice little weekend project, assuming MSI decides to actually release these things…

Galv, I’ve used Ubuntu. Good stuff, except that depending on your hardware, it might be weeks before you can figure out how to get it to run everything properly. Try getting sound to work on a Toshiba. At any rate, I love seeing OSX on something other than a Mac. Never been a fan of only being able to get OSX on something Apple built. Innovative products, controlling business practices.
