Go to College, Buy a Mac, Get a Free iPod

Retail

Not quite the formative years, but what better time to get people hooked on Apple products than while they’re in college? Besides, you need something to do while you’re sitting through those two-hour lectures right? Apple is currently running a slightly-early back to school promo for college kids looking to get their Mac on and truth be told, it’s a pretty good deal. Nuts and bolts: Buy a Mac, get a free iPod. The deal isn’t just for students either. Any student, faculty or staff member can purchase a qualifying Mac computer and get an 8 GB iPod Touch or 8 GB iPod Nano for free after a $299 rebate. Considering the MacBook starts at $1,000 now, and that’s before any student discount, this deal really is pretty solid. Don’t worry though, you have plenty of time to think about it as the offer is good from now through September 15th. Qualifying Macs include any MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro or iMac model.

    Just a heads up:

You get something like 30 days from the date of purchase to mail the rebate and it takes about two weeks to arrive, giving you a limited window to mail the rebate. I’m certain there would be no problem getting the rebate, just make sure you mail it IMMEDIATELY, especially considering it’s a 300 dollar rebate. I don’t have a printer at home and kept forgetting to bring the box to work to fill out the rebate stuff and print.. two weeks later I finally remembered and it was too late. :(

My original plan was to get a new ipod and give my older nano to my g/f’s little sister. I still gave it to her, but ended up paying for the new one because I was too slow w/the rebate.

Otherwise I’d recommend it, I love my macbook pro and who doesn’t want a free ipod?

The other side of Apple rebates is, they never try to weasel out of them.

Damn, is Apple so desperate that they have to GIVE the stuff away now?

Or my wishful thinking: they are unloading 8GB touches to make room for the combination of 16GB/32GB/64GB as the three models at the current price points.

Apple has run basically this same type of promotion before when they were going to introduce new ipods soon. Look for new ipods to be released relatively soon after September 15th.

I did this today, bought my new Macbook that I looked at last week, thank god I didnt buy it then . I dont know what all this is about mailing it in, my apple specialist gave me a little flyer, i went to apple.com/promo and filled everything out in about 22 seconds….done…they are also offering 100$ of a printer still, so iPod Touch and HP Printer for free, not a bad deal.
