BlackBerry launches TV ad campaign — finally!

Exclusive

You know how we always beat RIM over the head for not doing some mainstream advertising? We’re hearing they are going to start with their own ads (not carrier-sponsored) tonight. You can catch them all on NBC this evening. They will air (have already aired) on My Name is Earl, The Office, and 30 Rock. Anyone catch one of them yet?

Commercial isn’t that great. I think the HP commercials are much better.

Anyone else notice the BB product placement on bot h The Office and 30 Rock?

hehe, not bad from a “cool animation” standpoint, but I think they miss the mark entirely.

When that commercial came on last night, I was like…”cool fx”…and my wife says, “that looks way too complicated.”

This is why I think Apple will win out in the end. They get it. Most people who aren’t reading BGR or Engadget or Gizmodo just want devices that are simple and intuitive. Apple may not always have the most powerful, spec-laden products, but they know how to make tools that just work and can be used without reading a manual. Couple that with the fact that they control the entire process…industrial design, software, harware, marketing, etc., etc…. and you have a company that’s going to do some serious damage to the likes of RIM.

Sorry, the fanboys can spout off past figures till the cows come home, but there’s a reason there is so much buzz about the iPhone, let alone the fact that even RIM is trying to bite the iPhone look. They are worried…and with good cause.

To those who say the blackberry isn’t “cool” in the consumer space, I’m a sophomore in high school and by far the most popular phone is the blackberry. Practically nobody has data plans but it’s still the “it” phone to have.
