BlackBerry Nine Thou-what? Bring on the BlackBerry 9100!

Exclusive

If the delayed impact of the Canadian tidal wave hasn’t been completely underwhelming of late, it appears another new BlackBerry could be hiding around the corner. Throw down the red carpet and bring out the welcoming party, as it seems the next BlackBerry device – after the BlackBerry 9000 – will be the BlackBerry 9100.

Now, at first glance, the "|9100" reference may seem to pop out at you, right? However, what is really catching my eye is the reference to "External Display".

Do we see the BlackBerry 9100 in Vodafone’s Crystal Ball? The Magic Eight Ball says "Definitely Maybe".

From Dimension to Precision, there’s only one question to be asked – is it DoCoMo or Vodafone? Hmm.

Here’s one sign that AT&T will launch the BlackBerry 9000, although we’re curious as to what resides in the ’Captive Portal’ – sounds kind of kinky to me. Upon further investigation, it appears to be the AT&T Wi-Fi service (SSID=attwifi, Authentication Secret=wifipass, etc).

Perhaps most surprising to me is the mention of T-Mobile USA with respect to the BlackBerry 9000. The "error translator" is for the GAN/UMA technology.

That’s about all from this side of the tracks.

i doubt they actually call it the 9000 anyway. i mentioned on bbcool a while ago that it’ll probably be 9100, 9300, and 9900, or something like that. 9000 itself doesnt even sound cool

Am I going crazy or is BES 4.1 SP5 available for download on the blackberry support page now? It says it was posted 5-Mar-2008, did I not see that before somehow?

Vegeta, what does the scouter say about the next BlackBerry model?

    Vegeta: It’s over NINE THOUSAND!

    WHAT?! NINE THOUSAND?!

  • Jake

i dont understand wats so surprising about the tmobile thing… wat does it mean?

  • SammyQ

    @ Raffy

I think he the TMO surprise is because this is a 3g handset going to a carrier who still doesn’t have 3g. Trust me, I would really like see TMO get this and also to see them get a 3g network up and running, but they just seem to be a few steps behind the rest.

Big Bad BB, can’t we just hit the 10000 and get any and all mobile technology for the next 5 years?

  • Raffy

RIM knows that the two elements that will create success for the 1700/2100 MHz band are a large ecosystem of leading manufacturers and the harmonization offered by more countries in the Americas and Europe region adopting 1700/2100 MHz for advanced wireless services… so they are getting on the bandwagon early…

  • Heidi Venision

I wonder when RIM are going to start making up random new model numbers and putting them in these sorts of files just to trick Boy Genius?

  • Edhoru

    @ Jibi
    The blackberry.alx came from 4.5 or 4.6?

    nice find

  • Thyth

Those entries aren’t in my copy of 4.5, but I’m on the 8320 — so, I’m not surprised by that.

OS 4.5 and the BB 9xxx series can Spawn Dragons from the Convenience key. I am trying to verify whether the device will allow you to create an invisibility cloak around you as well.

  • Yaweee!

Considering that all the “100″ series for BlackBerry have been SureType devices, my guess is that there wouldn’t be any difference between a 9000 and a 9100 other than the keyboard and smaller size.

  • http://www.bgr.com Jibi

    @Edhoru, from 4.6 for the 9000.

@Yaweee, I’m not saying we’re going to see something different, but I have a feeling we won’t be seeing ‘variant feature’ devices from RIM in the 9000-series family of devices. That’s just a hunch, of course.
