Qik users rejoice! The video life-streaming service provider has just announced the addition of some sweet new add-ons to its increasingly-popular service. For those unfamiliar with Qik, it’s an application-based solution that allows users to stream high quality video from an S60 handset. Fans can tune in live while users are streaming and post comments that will pop up on the Qikker’s display while streaming. Very nifty service. The only catch has been that viewers must be on a desktop / laptop in order to watch videos and post comments. All that has just changed though! Well actually, half of that has just changed. Qik just launched a new WAP site that allows users to search for and watch Qik videos from almost any handset capable of .3gpp playback. WAP site features:

  • View and play the latest Qiks
  • Search for Qikkers’ profiles and play their Qiks
  • Login and play your own videos
  • Change Title and Privacy settings of your Qiks

Users still can’t play live streams on a mobile or post comments of course, but this is definitely a great start. From what we’ve heard, Qik may currently be working on a solution that would allow live stream viewing on certain mobiles but it’s unclear if the solution would include the ability to comment. We doubt it. In the meantime, this is definitely a step in the right direction.
