As you may or may not have heard, there’s this new iPhone firmware build, 2.0, that’s just been seeded to developers. We’ve got a hold of it, and we’re going to show you the new features and settings that we found while messing around with it. For starters, in General settings, the Mail, Contacts, and Calendar menus have all been condensed. This is presumably to make things a little easier to manage, especially if you’re on an Exchange server which we are. We could be wrong on this, but there’s a new "Import SIM Contacts" option in Phone settings, and that doesn’t look like it has been there at all. In fact, this is one feature people were complaining about from the beginning. We haven’t tried it, but it’s definitely there. Exchange syncing works a hell of a lot better than with the previous 1.2 build, and a lot of the bugs that were in the older version are now corrected. There’s a separate Contacts application on the homescreen a la iPod Touch now, and you guessed it! That brings you right to your precious contacts. Sadly the "Spotlight" search feature is not present, but we’re still betting that makes it into the final build. All sample code applications from the Developer run perfectly this time around, and overall the build we’re finding is a lot more stable.
