Sh-sh-shake it Like a Polaroid Picture!

Mobile developer Tong Ren is at it again, and this time he’s working on a very unique app that accelerometer-equipped S60 device owners are going to love. The concept is very creative and after having seen Flip Silent, Ren’s last piece of work, we’re confident that he’s going to do a great job tweaking this app to perfection. Here’s the idea: You’re walking around with a locked handset in your pocket and you receive an SMS. Currently, once you pull out your device you have to unlock it and then press OK to view the message. After you’re finished reading you can reply of course, and then exit the app and lock your device again. As seen in the video above, Ren’s ShakeSMS streamlines the process by creating gesture-recognition that will do the work for you. Upon receiving an SMS, the user need only give the device a quick shake and the handset is unlocked with the new message displayed instantly. Shake the device again and you’re back on the home screen with a locked device. Of course in the rare event that your new SMS actually contains some information of value, you can easily reply or forward it and then give it a shake to lock your phone once you’re done. It really couldn’t be easier. Thankfully it looks like the app requires a relatively jarring shake to activate so the movement involved with pulling the device out of a pocket or bag shouldn’t trigger any miscues. In fact, shake the phone as you remove it from your pocket or bag and the new SMS will be displayed by the time your handset reaches eye level. Now if Nokia would only give us a decent messaging UI…
