Motorola Q9 with Wi-Fi? Psh, yeah!

Shout out to the neighborhood FedEx driver! We were just delivered a brand new Motorola Q9 with Wi-Fi. This particular version is AT&T branded, and the 3G bands on here are 850/1900 MHz. This sure as heck looks like it’s headed to AT&T, right? The physical device is exactly the same, except the bezel around the phone is now completely chrome instead of a darker, unpolished silver. Obviously, the main difference is the inclusion of Wi-Fi, something it appears AT&T is fully committed to adding to most of their high-end smartphone handsets. We’re currently blazing at HSDPA speeds (yes, the H indicator shows up now instead of just 3G), and when on Wi-Fi, we’re gone in 60 seconds like Nick Cage! Want to check it out? You know you do!

    Well, isn’t this just a kick in the teeth. I have 2 weeks left to return this one, so unless it comes out by then I’m stuck with the non-wifi Q9h.

    Why is BGR being so quiet about this?

    It’s been long enough to show this thing via video.

    BGR seems oddly quiet on this one. I agree with other writers that too many errors in place for a legit unit. Could be photo-shop from one of his “sources” trying to impress someone (but suspect that BGR has nothing in hand as referenced).

    Where’s the video? Where’s the detail / specs? Not saying the BGR hasn’t broken stories – just saying this seems a little weak and with no response from BGR – a little puffed on this one.

    Yup, four days (an eternity in internet time) and BGR has neither confirmed nor denied anything about this.

    Very strange.

    Maybe someone pulled a fast one on BGR (and the readers by extension) and they are too embarrassed to admit it?

    Would love to know more about this new version of the Q9. I just checked the ATT website and they don’t have Wi Fi listed in the Q9′s specs. I wonder if this is going to be available through the holiday season or whether ATT want to get rid of their non Wi Fi stocks before they launch the more advanced version?

    In any case, I’m going to be looking in here to try and figure out when the Wi Fi enabled Q 9 would be available before I buy one. I hope we aren;t kept waiting too long or I won’t be the only customer looking at alternatives.

    Just to clarify the spelling, an actual person has to program the wireless ID on the towers like with wifi networks, so it is very possible that someone had a typo, or “Cingular Wireless” was one letter too long, most of the time here it just says “Cingular.” Also, the “wifi – available” alert is common in most windows mobile devices with wifi, its just a hidden plugin on the today screen.

    There is no way in hell that the tower would broadcast “Cigular”. If it did, you’d have hundreds of calls to 611 bitching about it. It would be fixed long before someone with a snazzy new Q9h that has Wifi enabled and takes a picture of the screen.

    Oh yeah, and the tech that mistyped the name would probably have been fired by now too…

    there is a menu for the wifi because you can aquire a micro sd wifi card, i believe and i hope .my moto is comig today,

    understand, that it took at&t 11 months to get this product out without wifi, so that does not bode well for the wifi iteration, if it will come out at all.

    wifi does not seem something at&t’s is willing to share with their customers, i guess they feel that it competes with their dataplans too much. only a product like the iphone have been allowed; but that is basically because apple needs the device to be connected to their service offers regardless of cell coverage.

    this event could be a “showcase” of windows mobile 6.1, on a test device that coincidentally had wifi capability.

    as much as i would like the q9 to deliver wifi, at this point a release of the wifi version of q9 continues to be pure speculation :-(

    It’s odd. Even in that video, the ‘n’ from Cingular is missing. Could be a faulty sim card, but nonetheless, I have not recieved any information on a re-release of the Q9h. I carry one myself, and would love to have one with wi-fi. I think it is a distinct possibility, as the iPhone is not the only phone we have with wifi. The 8925 Tilt is a prime example, as well as the Blackberry 8920.

    I’m holding out for the release of this Q9h With 802.11 from AT&T before doing anything like. A requirement for my next phone is WiFi. Windows Moble 6.1 would be a nice bonus.

    I’m not really sure why you’re all complaining about wi-fi on your Q. Why don’t you use the SDIO card if you’re so anxious for wi-fi on your Q??
