BlackBerry Pearl 8120 hits the FCC

General

We knew it was only a matter of time before the new BlackBerry Pearl 2 arrived at your local AT&T or T-Mobile store. That said, it’s nice to see some concrete evidence of the handset’s impending arrival. The FCC has, in typical fashion, revealed some details about RIMs new Suretype device. We already exclusively reported on most of these, but still, the handset will sport a 3.5mm headset jack, A2DP stereo Bluetooth support, GPS and Wi-Fi, external microSD slot, and much more. Sounds appealing, right? The phone apparently comes bundled with a UMA client, leading us to believe that it’s slated for a T-Mobile launch that will bundle it with their HotSpot@Home service. As is usually the case with FCC info there’s no details on launch date, but we’re confident that something will surface sooner rather than later.

Any idea when we could see this arriving at Rogers?

Wow, well its taken over a year but they finally graced the US with a full featured Pearl, way to get every last cent out of the model. Sad trend in RIM right now, and others (Apple) to release scaled down models to simply boost the overall profitability of a model. It is of course their business model but it comes at a high cost of time and consumer spending. Booo

WiFi and GPS??? I thought it was WiFi only? I am so sold if it has GPS too.

Now that this device has become a reality…

    8120? Or 8320?

  • Jess

Wow, I’m gonna die a little inside if this little sucker comes to T-Mobile with GPS AND Wi-Fi. I just got my Curve a couple weeks ago.

Glad I returned my Curve when i did…

I thought it was not going to have GPS and WiFi. If it has both, looks like a time for an upgrade.

  • Dude

But does it have a camera? If so, it shouldn’t be too difficult to design a Curve with all three major accessories (WiFi, GPS, camera). Then, and only then, would we have a full-featured BB. (No offense to the suretype users.)

I thought Wi-Fi and GPS together couldn’t fit in the Curve?

If it can’t fix my watch it’s useless. Just kidding. Seriously though, the wi-fi and gps in one package is a great look.

Can’t wait! Wonder if it’s safe to ask Santa for one?

Johnny that was just BS that the fanboys threw out there to justify RIM being slow in getting the models released.

Like Mike said, 8120 is wifi only. Also, your picture above is an 8100, the 8120 has a slightly different layout than the 8100. It also has a 2.0mp camera, not 3.2.

It’s also been released on Telefonica and O2 already, so you can find some more information at: http://eu.blackberry.com/eng/devices/device-detail.jsp?navId=H0,C101,P624

Wifi is a nice addition, but when they offer this on a network that offers 3G data, then I’d be interested. For now, I’ll live with my Pearl on VZW.
