AT&T to sell monitoring equipment to small and medium-sized businesses

No longer will giant corporations have the monopoly on employee spying. AT&T is set to launch a new Remote Monitoring program, which will allow small to medium-sized businesses to monitor operations from any Java-installed piece of gear. Indeed…that includes a Java-equipped cell phone. With these packages, a business owner can install everything from adjustable cameras, to door sensors, to lighting modules, and can use their PC or phone to view images, control lighting, even track equipment temperatures. It has some legit benefits, including insurance and theft protection, and won’t even set you back a ton of dough. Prices run in the $199 to $349 range for the gear, and from $9.95 to $39.95 for the monitoring service. The downside falls on the necessity for a broadband connection. Should that fail, you’re SOL. Beta products are already in the field, so look for this to surface to the general public soon.
