Microsoft ships incorrect Xbox 360 power cords, fires monkeys in shipping department

Nice job, Redmond. It seems that Microsoft has inadvertently shipped 20,000 American Xbox 360s to their European distribution channels. Uh oh. The biggest problem here is that the power supplies are completely incompatible with European outlets, rendering the massive pile of units completely useless. Nice move. Many European gaming stores and Microsoft outlets are said to be overflowing with consoles that they are unable to sell. Demand is still quite high for the console across the shore, but with little in the way of functional stock, most stores are having to turn customers away. Microsoft has not yet officially acknowledged the issue, but if you happened to be stationed overseas and are currently shopping for a new Xbox 360, pay extra attention to the components in the box before you leave the store.

    Sort of ironic that this was madeout to be a “stockroom” problem. I suspect the “stockroom” or shipping department did exactly what they were told to do. The shipping order said ship “X” to “Y”…

    The person(s) who were responsible for the shipping order never bothered to look at a world map list that might indicate the voltage requirements of the countries that they were sent.

    Perhaps the wrong units were palletized, but I suspect this was lack of common sense on someone’s part. But in corporate enviornments, I suspect it’s more a “I’m paid to do what I’m told…. not to think” mentality.

    This has happened a few other times, nothing that made news or blogs even, but people have gone through this before.

    I hardly see how this is a huge deal, I am the first to jump on Microsoft having been through a 360 myself and seeing friends go through multiples, but shipping the system with the wrong power cord isn’t as bad as shipping them knowing they are eventually going to break.

    People, US uses 110V and Europe uses 220V. Any US X-Box would have its power supply blown up when plugged in a European power board.

    Yes, it is regretable that MS made the mistake. Seems like things keep getting botched worse with this particular console. Hopefully they will do the right thing and either send replacement power supplies or at least refund the cost of replacement to the consumers.

    However, I wonder why the obvious intentional screwing over of the iPhone isn’t getting so much attention.
