It’s no secret that Sony’s gaming division is suffering under the weight of Nintendo’s Wii-volution. Nevertheless, it’s still a bit shocking to hear the following statistic: The Wii is outselling the Playstation 3 in Japan by a margin of 5 to 1. For the month of May, that translates into 251,000 Wii consoles to a paltry 50,000 PS3’s. That’s one heck of a margin. Nintendo is destroying Sony in the portable gaming market as well, with their DS outselling the PSP by the same 5 to 1 margin. It’s seems less and less likely that anything short of a massive price cut will allow Sony to salvage their rapidly crumbling gaming division. Good luck Sony. We wish you the best, but you’ve got a long uphill battle ahead. Best start hit those “performance enhancing drugs” quickly.
