iTunes 7.2 with iTunes Plus

News

Late last night Apple released iTunes 7.2, with the promised iTunes DRM-free tracks. There doesn’t seem to be many DRM-free songs inside of iTunes yet. These new tracks are called iTunes Plus. The new DRM-free $1.29 tracks were announced back in April with EMI. From their site the "What’s New" area says, "With iTunes 7.2, preview and purchase iTunes Plus music-new higher-quality, DRM-free music downloads from participating music labels." It seems you must go into your account settings and enable iTunes Plus in order to get this new feature, otherwise these tracks won’t be visible.

Sound good although if you think about it, the cost now is about the same as a CD, well if you buy the entire album at that price. (15 songs * 1.29 = 19.35) So there might not be so much of an advantage. Well lets hope this gets lower, also I am really sad and happy that I have a Zen, if they only added AAC.

This is lame…. so now I have to carry around another device …. and for what, just so I can have a larger keyboard. Thanks, but no thanks Palm… this is another dog…

ON a post at Gizmodo, don’t know about the other blogs. They mention that the DRM-free files still contain a type of security by having your name included in the file. Way to go apple secret security system. Hope this make everyone on the iPod trip happier.

well i for one hope this is the start of the bigger trend to kill off most drm. I bought a few of these today. Also it checks your library to see if you want to upgrade exisiting music to the new drm free stuff, its .30 per song to make it the same as the new ones but I think its a good start.
